Working in this rural school was an entirely new experience for me. The structure of schools I was used to in Canada was very different from the structure in place in Ancahuasi, which took some getting used to. However, it did not take long for me to become accustomed, and I was soon teaching multiple classes. The students were very eager to learn English and the teachers were very helpful in facilitating their learning. They helped with the language barrier as well as easing the transition of such a new and different person (the students were excited at the arrival of a Caucasian person) becoming the teacher. I enjoyed my time at the school, and the eagerness and work ethic of the students made teaching a pleasure, as well as helped make it feel like a rewarding experience.
